Environmental Awareness and Conservation

When you dive with Wavecrest scuba you can be sure that conservation is paramount in our fore thinking and when you dive with us you will learn how to make a difference from the passion and knowledge of the team.

As Divers we are privileged to access dive sites that are part of our cultural heritage and maritime history and here at Wavercrest Scuba, as part of our training we try to instill this respect of our underwater world; you're in a unique position to monitor the health of our local waters, you will see the underwater results of carelessness and neglect and because of this we try to set a good example with our own interactions so that others can learn from us.

The plight of our aquatic eco-systems is a driving concern for us all, and with this in mind, we are currently working in partnership with Project Aware, Newquay Aquarium, and Newquay Zoo to help you also learn to make this difference. Project Aware is our preferred charity, as they are champions in aquatic awareness and we do a lot of fund raising for them and participate in beach and underwater cleanups, Marine Debris Prevention and species recognition, we are also promoting World Oceans Day in June and International Coastal Cleanup Day in September, and whole heartedly support and work closely with The Shark Trust and The Orca Research Trust.

Wrecks can also serve as important habitats for fish and other aquatic life. Wavecrest Scuba help preserve these sites for future generations by obeying local laws, diving responsibly and treating wrecks with respect, we will share this with you so you can see that as places of historical significance and marine habitat are worth keeping.

We all know that caring for the environment doesn't stop at our doorstep so while we mainly focus our fight on marine issues we also have friends on land and in the air. Screech Owl Sanctuary are close to our hearts with the care they provide for sick and injured owls and we fully support the education they give to us all in how important these beautiful birds are for the future.

Dear to our heart is the Joe Way Paddle for life which is raising money for a children's hospice in Cornwall to enable family's to be closer to their ill child while they are cared for by the health service, which gets a bad rep but in this case (and many others unmentioned) went beyond the call of duty. Joe never stopped smiling and his strength was an inspiration to all he met, Matt (Joe's dad) is a close friend who's fund raising for the Children's Hospice South West's Precious lives appeal has been awesome and so succesful the hospice is underway. We are privaleged to be a small part of this heart warming and important appeal and proudly carry Joe's banner and message as often as possible.

Recommended Accomodation

Newquay is a fantastic choice for a short break, family holiday, or an action filled activity holiday with Wavecrest scuba; when looking for accommodation in Newquay there are many places to stay, we personally work in partnership with the following sites that provide accommodation for all pockets.

The choice of accomodation is all part of the memory so if you like roughing it and camping, or a little more comfort in a caravan then we recommend either The Monkey Tree holiday park and Hendra holiday park and Summer Lodge Caravan Park. If it is comfortable but cheap accomodation with four walls and a ceiling then we recommend the Offshore Surf Lodge overlooking Fistral beach or a small family friendly comfortable and affordable stay at Goofy's Boutique Hostel on Headland Road. If you want to pamper yourself then we recommend The Griffin Inn and Sands Resort Hotel & Spa, Porth for that little bit extra.

Surf lessons, Coasteering and more Watery Adventures

There are many other exciting activities that can be enjoyed in the Newquay and surrounding areas and we work alongside Offshore Surf School, Hot Rocks and Elemental UK for surf lessons, coasteering as well as other water sports geared up to make it fun for all your family and friends to turn that week or so well earned break into something memorable.
